HydraIRC / Submit a bug report |
|
Please note, crash bugs are rare in HydraIRC and they always take top priority over everything else, if HydraIRC crashes then we need to know as soon as possible as there may be another user experiencing the same problem. If you have found a bug please check the bug report area on the forum to see if it's not a known bug. If it's not a known bug then please create a new thread on the forum and it will be looked at as soon as possible. When submitting bug reports include at least the following information: 1) The exact version of HydraIRC that was used, e.g. v0.3.104 Note, if you're not using the latest version, upgrade and see if the bug has already been fixed. 2) Your operating system and service pack level (right-click on "My Computer" and select "Properties" to find this information). 3) Steps to reproduce. If it's a reproducible crash, then please enable "Console Logging" and "Socket Logging" in "Options\Prefs\Misc\Booleans", reproduce the crash and include the last page or two of the file in the report, or better yet, submit the whole file. 4) If it's a crash bug, you need to submit a crash address. This can be obtained from the dialog that appears when the crash occurs, for example: Unhandled exception at 0x00499a7c in HydraIRC.exe: 0xC0000005: Access violation reading location 0x00000008. that, or similar, information is very useful indeed. 5) Crash log and Crash Dump files See if you have file called "drwtsn32.log" in the folder "C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Microsoft\Dr Watson" (the folder may be hidden, to go directly to the folder click, "Start", then "Run" and type in the full folder name including the quotation marks ("). If you're using an older version of windows (Like windows NT or 98) then run "drwtsn32.exe" and it should show you the path. Alternatively search your hard drives for "drwtsn32.log", the one with the most recent date will probably be the correct one. If drwtsn32.exe didn't run or didn't create a file when HydraIRC crashed then it might not be your default debugger, looking at the following microsoft article should help (Basically, run "drwtsn32.exe -i" from the Start\Run dialog or a command prompt.) Your DrWatson configuration (under windows XP) should look similar to this:
Note that in the above example the option "Create Crash Dump File" is enabled, the path to the crash dump can also be set, in my case it's "C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Microsoft\Dr Watson\user.dmp". When submitting reports, include your crash dump file too. 6) Include a screenshot If you have a problem that occurs before the main window is shown then you don't need to do this, but state this in your bug report. To take a screenshot, press "print-screen", then start up MsPaint, or another image editor (Paint Shop Pro, Photoshop, etc) and paste the contents of the clipboard into the program, then save it as a JPG or PNG. 7) Include your profile, currently this file is named "profile_default.xml" and lives in your HydraIRC installation folder (normally "c:\program files\hydrairc\profile_default.xml" ) To submit files either upload them somewhere and provide a URL in your bug report, or contact a developer either via IRC or the forum and ask where to send them to. Currently there's no provisions for uploading files to bug reports via the website, this may be addressed in the future. » 12/December/2003 | Hydra |
