Just a quick note in case all of you are wondering what's happening with HydraIRC recently.

I've been waiting to get my XP64 system up and running (which it now is) so that I can start work on the 0.4 core which will be 32/64 bit and will support unicode and will be written in VS.net 2005.

The v0.3.148 codebase is waiting for excelsior to get back to me so we can include and finalize the sll and ipv6 support he's coded in.

Indeed. I'll still be checking these forums, even though I'be switched over to Miranda IM. HydraIRC will still be the next best thing.

I thought the 0.3 business was because it was "pre-1.0 alpha" or something like that? So basically, you're planning a major revision to the codebase and it will be it "0.4 alpha" ?

Do you ever plan to have a 1.0? It doesn't seem you'll ever get there with this model. Does anyone here know how to manage a software project, or is this just an excuse for missing features, perpetual buggyness, and uncontrollable requirements creep?

Yet you call this "the Professional IRC client" ?!?!

/me lmao... you are proving it to be the exact opposite

It's right we have never seen a software fully usable a long time before the 1.0 version, don't we ? rolleyes.gif

Oh, I absolutely agree that many products are so reliable pre-1.0.

Though I hope 0.4 will still be better smile.gif

MaverikCH, do you mean .NET technology as such - or VisualStudio.NET as compiler used? Only the latter applies to HydraIRC ...

Woooooo! 64 bit goodness! <3

As an aside, did you know HydraIRC works in Vista? <3

It just doesn't seem to make sense to me that it's being coded for 64 bit when it doesn't even have a full list of features. You can cope with 32-bit, it'll still work with 64-bit, and code it in the future. I'd stick with completing the client further; I'd rather have scripting support, than support for my AMD64. Priorities, priorities.

I'd rather use hydraIRC over a lot of others because I enjoy the auto hiding interface, and with the finishing of mandatory features in an IRC client, I'll switch back to HydraIRC as a default. But not yet.

Exactly. Woohoo... it will be written in VS.NET 2005 and support ipv6 which hardly anyone actually uses yet. But, it is still missing features (like scripting) that are considered basic and core in any other modern IRC client. I know, its free and you do it in your free time, but you do ask for donations yet you show backwards priorities which do not inspire confidence that there will ever be a "complete" program.

From the main page:

requires almost no CPU time and needs hardly any disk space!

You forgot to mention that it also has hardly any features. Perhaps that has something to do with it?

I'm just wondering if the next version will even be released this year!

Wouldn't it be better if there was a core group of people working on it instead of just one person doing the main coding and all the others mainly just adding/suggesting features/fixes?
